Hello,
We need a PHP 4 release. We need it now and we will need more and
regular releases in the near future.
It is clear that the current RM is not able to do his job in time and
in coordination with the other developers. See the numerous requests
about php4 releases or informations, they are all without answers.
I'm not saying that we should add features or fix minor bugs but there
is many security issues and segfaults that have been fixed since
months.PHP4 will slowly and surely loose all its users, but we cannot
stop to release it now, neither in the next 2 years.
I'm volunteer to be the RM for the PHP 4 branche until its death.
Cheers,
-- Pierre
Go for it.

Do you have time/inclination to be RM for 4.4? If not, let Pierre do it.
Go for it.

Sure, why wouldn't I? I did an RC before my holiday and soon it's time
for a release... can't do releases in some remote village on Iceland now
can I?

No you cannot. And you was also not able to release in the past 5
months. That's why you should resign and let me do it.

How about a nice hot cup of STFU? :)

p.s. Team work. That's how it should work, shouldn't it?

Welcome back, good to see that you are still pollite.

Yes, and in my book, my team collegues answer mails, don't ignore
users question and inform the rest of the team of their plans. If you
read the archives you will see that none of these points has been
fullfilled in the past 5 months.

I'm like a tiger, can't get rid of my stripes. :)
(bare with me, last 6 weeks in duty has been hell)

Virtue number one: patience..
You should visit the A-country for a few months and see how slowly things
really can go ahead. After that few weeks is nothing. And some people
do have holidays some times. ;)

Not to be a jerk, but things that don't fall under the category of
discussing the technical merits of decisions for PHP should probably be
taken offlist.

Which forum you think should be used for evaluating/selecting a Release
Master?
Edin
Sorry to barge in here with my opinions but isnt this discussion a little
mute?
How many more PHP 4 releases are you expecting? Surely 4.4.3 should be the
last? (Baring any serious security flaws) IMO bug fixes should be reserved
for PHP 5.x releases only.
Regards
Marco
While I'd love 4.4.3 to be the last release in the 4.X series, I
suspect there would be at least 1 and probably 2 releases after it.

Yeah, it will continue until there is no need anymore.

Release Master?
As far as I know people have always volunteered for this role, I
don't recall times we had excess of candidates for the position (I
wonder why ;-)). Ultimately, I think wether someone is given RM lays
in part with the core developer community and in part with PHP Group
that ultimately has the stewardship of the project.

Didn't you hear? PHP group is dead ;)

Hello Derick,
well i know you d a lot and had to slow down and have been on vacation.
Yet the vast majority is still using php 4 and we are indeed facing a
lof of security issues and don't do our reputation good if keep taking
long times between mini releases. If now Pierre thinks he can do faster
so be it. And which him all success. Maybe you can get RM for 5.2 then?
best regards

Hello all,
actually i should count better, Ilia does 5.2 so the next open RM
would be for 5.3. And since we are heading towards RC phase of 5.2
it is anyway time to look for an RM of upcoming 5.3.
best regards

Well, that might be true a bit but you know there were some other
factors here as well why it took some more time. Now (unfortunately)
holiday is over and I'm back (also with more time) so no need to switch
anything.

I'm very interested to know which factors have something to do with
us. Do you mind to enlight us?
I maintain my candidature, or if I am the problem, please propose someone else.

Some issues with a certain person that didn't really want to say which
fixes where not merged yet. But that is hardly to the topic here.

We don't need to change anything.

It is the topic. For the first time in months, you give us something
like a reason. I don't consider that as enough.
You say you don't want to change, up to you, I will let the other
decide and act accordingly .

So who is the RM?
Edin
So who is the RM?
Me, is there anything? besides there was only one feedback on the RC
from the primairy testers I guess there are no problems. So a release
next week seems like the way to go now.

Well since I'm doing the windows releases it's important for me to know
with whom to coordinate on the unix side of things :)

Please come in with a plan and respect it, if for some reasons you
cannot respect it, inform us early enough so we can actually do the
jobs.
Thanks for your understanding,

Ok, I don't call that a plan but a vague roadmap for something we are
waiting since months. But you are the RM and I have better things to
do that wasting my time trying to help. Thanks for the fish.
