Hi,
Two quick points on the PHP6/7 discussion:
-
There is an existing alternative PHP-compatible implementation called
PH7 available from http://ph7.symisc.net/. This may be very confusing if
mainline PHP is called PHP 7. -
People may see the latest version of PHP 7, think that there have been
massive changes, and delay porting their code to new versions.
(Despite this, i'm still in favour of the 7 name.)

Why aren’t you responding to the existing RFC discussion?

Some day there’s going to be a PHP 7, whether it’s the PHP NEXT we mean now or its successor, it can’t be helped.
(Also, it might be a stretch to call PH7 “PHP-compatible”, it has some very big departures from actual PHP.)

Well, PHP NEXT probably will have some massive changes in it anyway.
Surely “PHP 6” would be just as bad?
