I'm planning on rolling the first RC of PHP 4.3.3 on
tuesday evening, please commit all necessary patches before
that.

Is there an chance that you could put BSD realpath source and compile it
in PHP. This should solve the fopen and safe_mode bug on some systems
(unixware, TRU64UNIXX) whe realpath doesn'tt behave the way PHP expects.

Hi, Sorry to jump in...

If you decide to make a patch for this, then make sure you take the
FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE branch. The re-entrant version of BSD realpath has had
a bug for some time and this is only fixed in 4.8-STABLE and 5.x with
__FreeBSD_version 500110.
See:

for details.
