Do you think that my proposal of phpAspect is interesting ? Anyone
would like to be my mentor if the project is selected ?
Best regards,
William Candillon
I think of proposing as a project a new version of phpaspect
(http://phpapsect.org) based on creation of a ast php in xml and code
transformations with xslt (see the attachement).Google is doing their Summer of Code thing again this year. You can
read more about it here: http://code.google.com/summerofcode.htmlIt doesn't actually mention PHP there yet, but it will soon. So if you
are a student and have an interesting idea for a PHP-related project,
start thinking about your proposal. For eligibility see:
http://code.google.com/summfaq.html#who_is_eligible
and the rest of the FAQ as well I guess.

I (just a humble user) am interested in that development. I actually think
aspect oriented programming would be a nice addition to the (official) PHP
featureset. Something like this, if broadly supported, should turn into
something official so it won't lag behind the development of PHP itself, and
it would also be some guarantee for businesses that it will continue to be
supported in the future.
Just my humble opinion of course :)

I disagree :)
Although I know the theoretical and technical merits of AOP, I think
in the real world it's very confusing and hard to debug. I'd prefer
this kind of project not to be part of an official PHP, but in any
case, it can definitely sit in PECL/PEAR and I wouldn't discourage
this as a student's project.
Anyway, don't mean to start a whole thread about this but just want
to give a reality check that AOP is not all great so that we don't
run and start committing code to PHP :)
