I strongly support the January remarks by Rowan Tommins. Decades of use
for type casting values like (int) $_GET['count'] to arrive at a
specific type with a default value is already a "codified behavior" and
not a "problematic behavior". Upending this feature would be a backward
compatibility break of such magnitude that it reminds me of the changes
to the equality operator in v8.0. And on that note, I strongly support
the remarks by Alexandre Daubois that these changes should never have
been proposed for v8.6. "Time frame" was maybe unclear, but PHP is not
ready for this.
This RFC still shows "Target Version: PHP 8.6" and no discussion links
since January. Can I motion to have this updated to a later version
number or otherwise refreshed to indicate that it needs work?
