Happy Monday, everyone (unless it's Tuesday, in which case: Happy Tuesday!);
We've had an INCREDIBLE turn-out for PHP 8.1 Release Manager selection this
year.
In the role of "Veteran" release manager, Joe Watkins[0] has kindly stepped
up and offered to mentor two rookies, so there will be two seats up for
grabs, even though Joe will be an automatic selection (as the only
available veteran).
For those two rookie seats, we've got eight eager candidates for your
consideration [1-8]. Some of these included a statement about their
background with their initial email volunteering for the role, the rest I
encourage to reply to this thread providing some background on why they'll
be awesome.
In one week, I'll open the voting on https://wiki.php.net/todo/php81 using
"Single Transferrable Vote" (STV). Those who participated in prior
elections will recognize the format, for the reset: the TL;DR is that it
allows each voter to state their preference order by voting multiple
times. There will be six votes on the wiki for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th,
and 6th preference. Using some math that I'll leave to Wikipedia[9] to
explain, we'll start with the 1st preference and gradually remove
candidates with the fewest votes, transferring votes that had previously
gone to them to their voter's 2nd preference, and so on. Once two
candidates have a quorum (Droop quota), those will be officially selected
as our RMs. Derick Rethans has volunteered to proctor the tabulation of
the votes since he still has scripts from last year. :)
As you consider each candidate, please bear in mind that this is a 3.5 year
commitment and is a position of trust.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Your 8.0 Release Managers,
-Sara Golemon and Gabriel Caruso

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_transferable_vote > Hello PHP-DEV!
I will keep this short and sweat. I Have been developing with PHP for
over 20 years. I am currently a Senior developer speaking at conferences
and writing articles and books. All that to say -- I want to give back
and contribute to this wonderful community that I have been on the
outskirts of for so long. Doing research for my PHP 8 book lead me to
follow RFCs from birth to vote which gave me an inside view of the inner
workings of the internals. As Sara stated, along with the technical work
there are other activities such as podcasts, talks that come with this
role. I am more than willing and it would be an honor to represent PHP
in these channels. I want to learn, contribute and take part with this
community. Please reach out to me if there are any questions you have
for me. I want to bring the best of my abilities and skills to this role.
Thank you!

Hello,
I would like to introduce myself to those of you who might not know me.
My name is Saif ( also known as "azjezz" ), I'm 21 years old, i have been working with PHP for approximately 8 years.
I'm currently employed as a senior developer at Les Tilleuls, before that i worked at Symfony SAS for 1 year and 6 months, in total, i have 2 years of professional experience.
I maintain some open source projects ( e.g: PSL ), and help contribute to some other on my free time ( e.g: Symfony, Psalm ).
I'm mostly interested in type systems, and asynchronous programming.
I have been subscribed to the internals mailing list for few years now ( didn't engage much ), but i want to help the community within my powers, and i think i can take on this role with the help of the veteran RM.
If you have any additional questions, you can reach me via email, twitter, or keybase.
Regards.

Hello,
I haven't properly introduced myself yet.
I started developing with PHP 3 at the end of '98 and, apart from a 1,5
year intensive Python mission, I've never been far from PHP, following this
list for about 14 years.
I have been lucky to travel the world to various PHP conferences to speak
about subjects like: PHP extension creation, PHP Data Structures, Advanced
debugging techniques or about the PHP APM extension that I created in 2009.
Professionally, I have been a core developer of the Open Source eZ Publish
CMS (later eZ Platform then Ibexa DXP) before being a total
independant freelancer.
Today, I'm doing 40% of C development developing the Blackfire PHP
extension, and for other customers: 40% of PHP and 20% of sysadmin.
Not an author of any major Open Source library, but I frequently contribute
improving the components that I use, this includes PHP as well.
Last time I broke a lot of testsuites in the PHP ecosystem was when I
introduced the PHP notice: "Array to string conversion in...".
I remember that change pissed off some library/framework authors, but it
was for a good reason :)
I hope that I can bring back to PHP what it gave to me for more than half
of my lifetime!
Cheers,
Patrick
