Below is a link to my take on the redesign:

http://files.edin.dk/php/installer/snaps-html/index.html
(Warning - none of the links on the page go to anywhere)

My thinking is keep one set of builds on the main page and then
provide a link to previous builds, which we can give an ftp-style
listing or make the nicer looking page like above. This keeps the
snaps page cleaner since I would think most people would be looking
for the latest snap and not necessarily one of the previous 4 ones.

Let me know if my approach and design sounds reasonable.

Looks really good.
One suggestion: how about removing the left column ("next snapshot")
and add that info under each "built on"?

Yes, it looks excellent.

I think we should put it as is since that information is vital for
people without a windows system to see if their fixes build on win32.

I'll put this up over the weekend.

Thanks John!

Thanks,

Let me know if you need any help getting it up and running.

Also, for the "Previous Build" links, do we want to just dump them to
a directory or have a nicely formated page similar to this one. Either
way shouldn't be a problem.

I like the design under Firefox, but I guess you didn't check it out
with IE7? It gives me a lot of scrollbars in the page ...

Fixed that; IE7 and overflow: auto where the culprits, so I added
special CSS just for that browser.

Thanks for catching that!

Although I have actually nothing to say here, I like the approach as
well. It seems to be very clear to me.
I have already said that I dislike the "Next Snapshot" column on
snaps.php.net, but you have made the column far less complex. :)

Thanks for the compliments and the suggestion.

I've made the whole section underneath each branch in the light blue
highlighted color. I agree it makes it much easier to read now.

Hi Chris,

I can see where you are coming from. I put together another version of
this that entirely uses the PHP CSS templates:

http://files.edin.dk/php/installer/snaps-html/index-phptemplate.html

It looks and feels more like the main PHP.net site. I also went ahead
and changed the branch names to PHP 4, PHP 5, and PHP 6, instead of
4.4.x-dev, etc.

I'm curious now which one everyone prefers, the previous one (
http://files.edin.dk/php/installer/snaps-html/index.html ) or the one
listed above.

John

Hi John,

I actually kind of liked the branch names instead of just "PHP4/PHP5".
"PHP5" doesn't mean squat to me, I'd prefer to see the branch names as
they barely take any more space and yet provide a lot more info.

I like it, but how about using "BZip2 Tarball" and "Zip Package" etc
instead of "php5 (...)"?

New one looks better, I would prefer this.

Would like to see the branch name 4.4.x-dev , 5.5.x-dev, etc. and not
PHP4, PHP5.

Changed the titles back.

Any other comments on this version

or should we go ahead and put it up there?

The new snaps site is up and running.

I want to thank John Mertic for the nice work the design and everyone
for coming with helpful suggestions.

P.S. this file is in the cvs as systems/snaps_index.php so any
modification suggestions would be best sent as patches to this file.
