A .gz file as well as a .bz2 file would work, WinZip supports gzip well. Most users I know will not go looking for a program to decompress a file assuming they even know how to do that. The Unix people already are aware of BZ2 but most Windows users are not :) Jason -----Original Message----- From: Tom Sommer [mailto:webmaster@tsn.dk] Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 10:09 AM To: internals@lists.php.net Subject: [PHP-DEV] Re: too much distributions on php.net On Fri, 11 Apr 2003 12:02:20 -0400, Colin Viebrock wrote: > My Mac and Windows copies of Stuffit Expander handle .bz2 files. > WinZip doesn't. And there are lots of bzip apps for Windows. Winrar works with bz2, not very well... but it works I think we need a .zip for windows and a .gz and/or .bz2 for Linux If a windows newbie goes to the download page and sees only a .bz2 available, he'll get extremely confused :) The .zip is sort of mandatory, IMO :) -- Tom Sommer, Denmark www.tsn.dk - www.dreamcoder.dk -- PHP Internals - PHP Runtime Development Mailing List To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
