The problem is that non one is supporting a LTS version of PHP5.2? And that is 
what is needed even to support the like of Joomla where I've had to switch off 
e_strict and e_warnings just to get it to run on the PHP5.4 servers.

I'm not proposing anything, I'm asking if other people are having the same 
problem to find out what DOES need to be done. PHP5.2 IS still the mainstay of 
hosted services, and unfortunately the shit is hitting the fan when ISP's switch 
even to PHP5.3 simply because the bulk of sites are not updated everytime PHP 
changes something.

What I would like to see is a sensible discussion on supporting the vast 
majority of users with the problems they will have in simply catching up. ISP's 
need to be educated as to settings that while not 'preferred' for modern 
developments, are necessary simply to keep existing sites running. I could even 
make a case for a 'legacy' build of PHP5.4 which will actually run existing 
sites out of the box, which ISP's could then adopt without the risk of breaking 
the vast majority of their customers sites.
