Fresh contributors always put some extra weight on the people already on the project, that's nothing new and not exclusive to open source projects. I do think that a concerted effort like this proposed program could really help in that way. And as long as some people are available as mentors there's no harm in trying. To get back to the "improve docs" part I'd gladly collect the artifacts, mails, wiki entries, etc of this effort and try help create this "contribute page" Pierre spoke of. Greetings, Florian
