I was talking about what we were left with by the time we reached the point of needing a meeting. There were of course several attempts (recent and not so recent) to retain :: because this is what *everyone* would have preferred to do. I certainly didn't intend to leave the impression that this hadn't been investigated fully, or that there weren't several proposals of ways to get around the known problems. - Steph
