Unfortunately, the spread package in pecl has not been maintained and does not seem to work. Our dev team's expertise is not in C, much less Zend Extensions. We would be willing to fund the development of a spread extension to go into pecl. I am sure there is someone on this list that good do a great job. I don't want to post this on some random job list.
