Note that for top-level directories, you *must* include the trailing slash if you want the rewriting to work properly. If you specify cvs.php or browse.php in the path, though, then trailing slashes aren't required, and they're not required for subdirectories either (the rule just requires that there's at least one / for an URL to be rewritten).
